Bronte, Texas
Bronte is a town in Coke County in the semiarid ranch country of West Texas, about 30 miles north of San Angelo and roughly 51 miles southwest of Abilene. The town was named for the English novelist Charlotte Brontë and lies in the dry, rolling terrain drained by the Colorado River, near Oak Creek Reservoir. Ranching and, later, oil have shaped the surrounding country.
Property here runs through the Coke Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Coke County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
