The Wichita River Trail Connects Lucy Park to Lake Wichita

The Wichita River section of the Circle Trail runs 4.37 miles from Lucy Park to Williams Park, where it meets the Holliday Creek section. Starting at Lucy Park, a rider can continue to Lake Wichita and return on a 28.76-mile round trip. The river is not just beside the trail; it is the line that connects the parks.

The larger system now has more than 20 miles of concrete trail. Nearly all of it is 10 feet wide and built for walking, jogging, bicycling, and rollerblading. Motorized traffic is barred except for official city vehicles. That broad paved surface carries the route along the Wichita River, Holliday Creek, Barnett Road, Seymour Highway, the BNSF corridor, and Wichita Bluff.

The system grew one piece at a time. Concrete trail construction began in Lucy Park in 1987. New sections followed, and the city still plans two connectors to complete an eventual circle of about 24 miles. Even before that gap closes, the trail already turns the river, lake, bluff, and central parks into one piece of city geography.
