Wee-Chi-Tah Turns the River Bottom Into an Off-Road Trail

Wee-Chi-Tah is the dirt-track counterpart to Wichita Falls' concrete Circle Trail. Wichita Falls Streams & Valleys owns and maintains the free, volunteer-run system, where mountain bikers, runners, and walkers share natural ground instead of pavement.

The full trail is about 11 miles. A 5.5-mile Camp Fillers loop offers a shorter option, while the 2-mile J.S. Bridwell Ag Center loop is suggested for young riders and new mountain bikers. Roots, rocks, climbs, and technical features shape the route, with bypasses available around many obstacles.

The trail has its own traffic pattern. Walkers and runners move opposite cyclists, and everyone reverses direction on Wrong-Way Wednesdays. Throttle bikes are barred, pedal-assist e-bikes are allowed, riders need helmets, and pets stay leashed. Entrances sit at the Wee-Chi-Tah statue on Wichita Street and the Travel Information Center on Central East Freeway. Weather and special events can close the trail. On an ordinary open day, the mix is roots, volunteers, shared dirt, and a weekly direction flip.
