Waxahachie Creek gives the city a four-mile green spine

Waxahachie's courthouse square gets the postcards, but the creek draws a quieter line through town. The Waxahachie Creek Hike and Bike Trail follows a curving path through creekside woods for four miles. It begins at Getzendaner Park, passes through the city's historic cemetery, and reaches Lion Park.

That route makes the trail a cross-section of Waxahachie rather than a loop beside one parking lot. A walk or ride moves from park ground into woods, along the creek, past the cemetery, and out at another park. The landmarks are part of the outing instead of scenery seen through a windshield.

Four miles is enough distance to watch the city change around the water. The trail never pretends to be backcountry. Its character comes from staying woven into town while the creek, bends, and trees make room for a different pace.
