Williamson County Title Transfers Need the Tax Office Paper Trail

Williamson County's title page separates seller and buyer steps for a private vehicle sale. Sellers complete, date, and sign the title, while buyers complete the title assignment, sign Form 130-U, bring valid ID, and provide proof of insurance.

TxDMV says vehicles must be titled in the buyer's name within 30 days from the date of sale. TxDMV also recommends that sellers file a vehicle transfer notification, which updates the motor vehicle record to show the vehicle as sold and helps shield the seller from later tolls and tickets.

Before visiting the Williamson County Tax Office, check whether the deal involves a lien release, gift, power of attorney, out-of-state title, bonded title, or emissions inspection record. Those details are usually what turn a simple transfer into a second trip.
