Title Transfer

Transferring a Vehicle Title in Kerr County

Buy a truck off a neighbor in Kerr County and the deal isn't finished when cash changes hands. The title has to be transferred at the county tax office. There are two counters that do it: the main office in Suite 124 of the courthouse at 700 Main Street in Kerrville, and the West Kerr annex at 510 College Street in Ingram for folks out on that side of the county. The vehicle-titling line is 830-792-2241.

TxDMV's own advice for a private sale is for the seller to come to the tax office with the buyer. The clerk can check the signed title on the spot, confirm the seller actually signed it over, and catch a salvage brand or a lien before the application goes through. That five minutes together saves the buyer from driving home with a title that won't transfer.

Take care of it promptly. Texas gives you a window to title a newly bought vehicle in your name, and late transfers pick up penalties. Bring the signed title, your ID, and proof of insurance, and budget for the sales tax and title fees due at the counter.
