Transferring a Vehicle Title in Coryell County

When you buy a car off a neighbor or sell one yourself, the paperwork lands at the Coryell County Tax Office, not the DMV in some other town. The office at 800 E. Main Street, Suite B in Gatesville handles title transfers, registration, plates, and disabled placards, and you can run a title transfer through the mail if a trip to the counter doesn't fit your week. The new title gets delivered roughly two weeks after the transaction.

For plain registration renewals you've got easier options: online through the state portal, by mail, or even at an H-E-B that offers the service. The Copperas Cove side of the county has its own office line at 254-547-4285; the Gatesville office answers at 254-248-3142.

One thing to keep sorted out: the tax office deals with your vehicle, but your driver's license and state ID are a DPS matter, handled at a different office. For a private sale, work off the TxDMV title-transfer checklist so you bring the signed title, the application, and proof of insurance in one go.
