Walker County vehicle registration no longer needs a routine safety inspection

For a regular car or pickup in Walker County, the old DPS safety check is gone. It is no longer part of getting your sticker.

Walker is not one of the 17 Texas emissions counties. A regular personal vehicle here does not need an emissions test either.

Commercial vehicles still need a commercial inspection. Homemade or shopmade trailers and vehicles are separate. Walker County handles those auto-theft checks by appointment at the county annex, 1301 Sam Houston Avenue in Huntsville.
