Vehicle Registration Practical

Ector County Personal-Vehicle Renewals No Longer Need a Safety Inspection

For Ector County drivers with a personal vehicle, renewal is simpler than it used to be. Since January 1, 2025, Texas no longer requires a yearly safety inspection before registration for non-commercial vehicles.

DPS does not list Ector as an emissions-test county. A local personal vehicle pays the $7.50 replacement fee at registration, then gets the sticker. Commercial vehicles still need safety inspections.

Titles and registration go through the county tax office at 1010 E. 8th St., Room 100, in Odessa. New Texans have 30 days to register here. New registrants still use Form 130-U.
