Potter County Is Outside the Emissions Program

Texas runs its emissions program only in named counties. Potter County is not on that list. A regular vehicle registered here does not need an emissions test. On January 1, 2025, Texas also ended the safety check for noncommercial vehicles before registration. Commercial motor vehicles still need a yearly commercial inspection.

Fees and papers still apply. Your renewal notice will show whether you can renew online, by mail, or at the county office. Check TxDMV first if the vehicle is commercial, has a new title, or has another special issue.
