Kleberg vehicle registration belongs at the county tax office

Kleberg County handles car titles and tags at its tax office, 700 East Kleberg Avenue in Kingsville. Go there for a title change, a tag renewal, an address change, a parking placard, or a copy of a receipt. Call 361-595-8541.

Here is the normal rule for a personal car or truck: no yearly safety check and no emissions test before you renew the tag. Texas ended safety checks for personal vehicles on January 1, 2025. Kleberg is not in the state emissions program.

A commercial vehicle is different. It still needs a yearly safety check. DPS handles a driver's license. The county tax office handles the car's title and tag.
