Cass County cars skip inspections, not registration

Ordinary noncommercial cars and light trucks in Cass County need no safety or emissions test. Texas ended the state safety check for these vehicles on January 1, 2025. Cass is not among the 17 counties with emissions testing. Commercial vehicles still need a commercial check.

Titles and registration still apply. The main Cass County Tax Office is at 604 TX Highway 8 N in Linden. Atlanta and Hughes Springs have substations for auto registration. Take a title transfer or other DMV issue to Linden. The title counter stops taking work 30 minutes before the office closes.

For a sale between two people, bring the signed title and Form 130-U. Add a lien release or power-of-attorney form when one applies. You also need proof of insurance when you title and register the vehicle.

Cass County has required a valid government photo ID for in-person DMV work since December 1, 2025. The ID should belong to the applicant named on the title form. The Linden office number for DMV questions is 903-756-5513.
