Hays County residents can register vehicles at H-E-B locations and online

The Hays County Tax Office handles vehicle titles and registration. You can renew at six H-E-B stores in San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Wimberley, and Dripping Springs. To renew online, enter the plate number and the last four VIN digits. Registration stickers and title transfers can also be handled by mail.

Since January 1, 2025, Texas has not required yearly safety checks for noncommercial vehicles. Hays County is not in the emissions-test group. Travis and Williamson counties require emissions tests; Hays does not.
