Dealer Inventory Tax

Vehicle Dealers File Inventory Tax Reports Monthly

Vehicle inventory tax (VIT for short) is a special property tax built for dealers, and in El Paso County the Tax Assessor-Collector's office runs both the collection and the dealer compliance side for anyone holding a dealer license.

Covered dealers file an annual declaration plus monthly reports on Comptroller forms, and the monthly statement and tax prepayment are due to the County Tax Assessor-Collector by the 10th of each month through the year.

This one lands on businesses with dealer licenses, not on ordinary buyers. If you're opening, buying, or running a dealership here, work through the county VIT page and the state forms before the first sale — a late or missing report can trigger penalties that are easy to avoid and painful to clean up.
