Towne Center Park is Heath's bet on a real town center

Heath grew up as lakeside neighborhoods and semi-rural acreage, the kind of place with plenty of houses but no obvious downtown. Towne Center Park, at 200 Laurence Drive, is the city's answer to that: a signature park anchoring a roughly 200-acre push to build a genuine town center where people gather instead of just commuting through.

It's far more than a playground. The plans carry multi-use sports fields, lighted pickleball courts, a splashpad, playgrounds, an event lawn sized for crowds up to 2,000, and a festival street built to host food trucks. The idea is a place that can hold a Saturday market, a concert, and a kids' soccer game on the same weekend.

Around it, Heath is steering future dining and commercial growth while saying out loud that it wants to keep its lakeside, semi-rural character. That tension, a real downtown versus the quiet that drew people here, is the story to watch as the park fills in.
