Travis Central Appraisal District: What It Does
One property-tax bill can look like the work of one office, but Travis County splits the job. Travis Central Appraisal District, or TCAD, appraises property as of January 1. It also handles exemption applications and protests. Cities, school districts, and other taxing units set their own tax rates. The Travis County Tax Office calculates, sends, and collects the bills.
That division points you to the right counter. Take a value or exemption question to TCAD. Take a payment or bill question to the Tax Office.
If an appraisal notice looks wrong, use the deadline printed on it. The usual protest deadline is May 15 or 30 days after the notice was mailed, whichever is later. TCAD may settle a timely protest in an informal review. If not, the Appraisal Review Board can hear it.
