Swiss Avenue Shows Dallas's Early Historic-District Architecture

Swiss Avenue runs through East Dallas as a broad, parkway-divided street lined with grand early-1900s homes. The City of Dallas Office of Historic Preservation says the district was formerly part of the Munger Place subdivision and holds about 200 homes in historical revival, Prairie, and Bungalow styles.

Its place in city history is specific: the city identifies Swiss Avenue as the first local historic district designated in Dallas, in 1973. That early protection is a big part of why the street still feels so intact next to the apartment corridors and newer subdivisions elsewhere in the county.

For a resident or buyer, this is a cue, not a tour: when a property sits in or near a historic district like this, look at the preservation rules, neighborhood context, and official district materials before you count on changing anything outside.
