The free Highway 66 boat ramp puts Rockwall on the water
The western edge of Rockwall County is all water, but the practical question is where a regular person with a trailer can actually back down to it. The State Highway 66 Boat Ramp is that spot, a City of Rockwall facility off SH 66 where the highway meets Lake Ray Hubbard.
There's more launch capacity here than at a lot of metro ramps: two single-lane ramps plus a double-lane concrete one, and parking for about 40 vehicles with trailers. It's open all year and there's no launch fee, which on a busy Saturday in the DFW area is no small thing.
Forty truck-and-trailer spots fill up on a warm weekend morning, so the bass crowd and the ski boats both learn to get there early. If the lot's full, the lake has other public ramps around its edges. Terry Park over in Heath is the next-closest on the Rockwall County side.
