Seawolf Park Puts a Fishing Pier Next to a WWII Submarine

Cross the bridge off Galveston Island onto Pelican Island and you reach Seawolf Park, sitting where the harbor meets the bay. It's long been one of the island's go-to fishing piers, where the deep ship-channel water draws anglers who want something more than a Seawall jetty, with picnic areas and a playground next to it. Parking runs $10 a vehicle, and that's waived if you're paying to fish.

What sets it apart is the steel beside the water. The Galveston Naval Museum keeps the USS Cavalla, a World War II submarine, and the USS Stewart destroyer escort right here, and you can walk through them. A family can fish all morning, eat under a pavilion, and tour the boats in an afternoon without leaving the grounds.

It runs sunrise to sunset, with no glass containers and pets on a leash. If you mean to fish after dark, the city has you buy a fishing band first. Hours, fishing rates, and museum admission shift, so give the park a call at 409-797-5114 before you head out.
