McLennan County Has Oil and Gas Activity Under RRC District 5

Texas law assigns each county to a Railroad Commission oil and gas district. McLennan County is in RRC District 5. The RRC regulates all drilling, well operations, and pipeline construction for oil and gas. If you suspect an unplugged or leaking well on or near your property, contact the RRC.

The RRC's public GIS Viewer and well records database let you search for active and historical wells by location. If you are buying rural land, checking for old oil or gas wells on the property is a good step. The RRC also tracks saltwater disposal wells and other operations that may affect land and water.
