Property Tax Basics Practical

Two offices handle your property taxes in Rockwall County

The number on your tax bill is born at 841 Justin Rd. That is the Rockwall Central Appraisal District, the office that decides what your property is worth. Think the value runs high, or you want a homestead, over-65, or ag exemption knocked off the top? You take that up here, not anywhere else.

A few blocks over at 101 E. Rusk St. is the Rockwall County Tax Assessor-Collector, and this is where folks get turned around. That office does not actually collect your property taxes. Your city, your school district, and any special district each send their own bill and cash their own check. So when you are staring at a bill trying to work out who gets paid and where the money goes, start with a call to the appraisal district — they can tell you which collector belongs to your parcel.
