Property Tax Has Two Separate Offices Here
Out in Darrouzett, the Lipscomb County Appraisal District sets what your land and buildings are worth each year. That number is where every argument starts. Think your value's too high, or you've got an exemption coming? This is the door, and it's the only door, for protesting a value or filing for one.
But the appraisal district never sends you a dime to pay. That comes from the Tax Assessor-Collector at 101 S. Main Ave. over in Lipscomb, the county seat — they mail the statement and take your money. So you've got a value question pointed one way and a payment question pointed the other, across two towns sitting a good half-hour apart on Panhandle two-lane. Folks who drive to Lipscomb to argue an assessment, or to Darrouzett to hand over a check, end up making the trip twice. Sort out which question you're actually asking before you point the truck anywhere.
