A Bexar County tax bill that is too big to pay at once is not a dead end. The county has payment-plan options, including a quarter-payment plan that splits the bill into four parts.

You can still join that quarter-payment plan in February, but the first payment then carries a 7 percent late fee. Penalty and interest can start after the last timely payment date unless the account is on an allowed plan.

The right option depends on the account, year, and whether an over-65 or disabled installment plan applies. Keep confirmations and receipts, especially for escrow, online, or mailed payments.
