Tax Payments

Pay your Starr County tax bill at a substation in La Victoria or Roma

In Starr County the appraisal district decides what your property is worth, but the Tax Assessor-Collector is who actually sends the bill and takes your money. If you've got a question about a balance, a receipt, or a payment, that's the office, at 100 N. FM 3167, Room 201 in Rio Grande City, 956-716-4800.

You don't always have to drive to the seat, though. There are two substations: one in La Victoria at 532 Gabriela St., and one in Roma at 1705 N. Athens St., each with its own phone and staff. The office splits its work into a property-tax side and a motor-vehicle side, so it helps to say up front which one you're calling about.

There's also a Pay Taxes Online link if you'd rather not stand in line. Before you submit, double-check you've pulled the right property account and the right tax year. Online portals can tack on a processing fee and they're easy to misread. If the balance on screen doesn't match what you think you owe, a call to the tax office clears it up faster than guessing.
