Paying Medina County Property Tax — and the Call That's Always a Scam

Property-tax payments in Medina County go to the Tax Assessor-Collector, not the appraisal district, and you've got options: pay online, or in person at the Hondo main office on Avenue M, the Devine sub-station on State Highway 132, or the Castroville sub-station on FM 471. The online portal lets you look up your tax history, print statements, make a payment, and pull old receipts without driving anywhere.

One warning the office puts in capital letters is worth repeating: the Medina County tax office will never call you and ask for payment over the phone. They don't take credit cards or checks that way. If someone phones claiming to be the tax office and presses you to pay right now over the line, it's a scam — hang up and call the office back at a number you looked up yourself.

When you do pay, match the details first: the owner name, the property or quick-reference ID, the tax year, and the taxing units. If an online figure doesn't square with your closing statement or the bill in your mailbox, call before you send a dollar.
