Who Handles Property Tax in Presidio County
The number that decides your tax, what your property is worth, comes out of the Presidio County Appraisal District at 107 E. Texas St. in Marfa. PCAD sets the value and nothing else: it doesn't write the tax rate and it doesn't take a dime in payment.
Walk a few blocks over to 301 Highland St., also in Marfa, and you've found the Presidio County Tax Assessor-Collector, the office that mails the bill and cashes your check. The split catches people out: if you think your value is too high, you protest with the appraisal district, not the collector. A homestead exemption knocks down what you're taxed on, and the general window to file runs up to early May, though that date has moved before. Both offices sit within walking distance of each other in Marfa, so one trip downtown covers both.
