Two Offices Handle Property Tax in Live Oak County
Start at 205 Bowie St. in George West. That's the Live Oak County Appraisal District, the office that puts a value on your house, your acreage, or your business. It sets values for eight taxing units, so the same number drives what you owe the county, George West ISD, Three Rivers ISD, the City of George West, and a handful of others all at once.
Normally a separate county tax assessor-collector would take that value and send you the bill. Here, that office does not collect property taxes. The appraisal district may handle the collecting too, which is why people go looking for a tax window that isn't doing the work.
If you live in the home you own, a homestead exemption knocks down the taxable value, and the one-page application goes to the appraisal district, not to a tax office. The Comptroller keeps a current contact list for both offices and spells out which local exemption amounts apply, so check there before you fill anything out.
