Property Tax Practical

Two offices handle your property taxes in Somervell County

Your tax bill in Glen Rose starts at one address and gets paid at another. Out on Allen Drive, the Somervell County Appraisal District puts a value on your home or land every year. That number is the foundation for everything that follows. A few blocks over, at 107 N.E. Vernon St., the county Tax Assessor-Collector takes that value, mails the bills, and collects the money.

Eight taxing units pile their own rates onto that one appraised value (the county, Glen Rose ISD, the City of Glen Rose, a water district, and a hospital district among them), which is why a single property can owe several lines on one statement. If the appraised value strikes you as too high, the protest doesn't go to the office that collects the money; it goes back to the appraisal district that set the number in the first place. Get that address straight and you've already saved yourself a wasted trip across town.
