Polly's Chapel Keeps a Tejano Frontier Story in Stone
Northeast of Bandera, Polly's Chapel keeps a small frontier story in stone. The Texas Historical Commission marker names Policarpo Rodriguez as a Texas Ranger, Army scout, guide, and 1858 settler on Privilege Creek.
Rodriguez converted to the Methodist faith there. In 1882, he built the native-stone chapel with his own hands. He and others preached there afterward.
That is enough to make Polly more than a road name. The chapel puts a Tejano settler, scout, minister, and stone builder into the county story. It gives the northeast side of Bandera County a human anchor people can still point to.
