Pheasant and Pronghorn Share Carson County's Hunting Map

Carson County appears on two short lists in TPWD's 2026-27 Outdoor Annual. Texas has pheasant seasons in 37 of 254 counties and pronghorn seasons in 41. Carson is on both. That puts one Panhandle county in two very different hunting systems.

Pheasant follows a regular Panhandle season. Hunters need an upland game bird endorsement. Pronghorn hunting requires a permit tied to land. Landowners or land managers apply, and hunters contact them about available permits. TPWD tells each hunter to make sure the permit was issued for the property being hunted.

One species sits on a regional bird calendar. The other starts with a permit for one property. Dates can move from season to season. Pheasant beside pronghorn, though, remains a compact bit of Carson County's Panhandle identity.
