Nails Creek Opens Lee County to Lake Somerville

Nails Creek is Lake Somerville State Park's Lee County unit, northeast of Giddings at 6280 FM 180. Nails Creek runs along its southern edge, while Yegua Creek enters the lake just north of the unit. Gently rolling ground, woods, and spring wildflowers sit between the two waterways.

Four short named trails let a visitor choose the size of the outing. The Lake Shore and Overlook trails each run 0.7 mile; the Nails Creek Loop is 0.8 mile; and the Cedar Creek Loop stretches 2.1 miles with fishing and wildlife access.

Then there is the 13.4-mile Lake Somerville Trailway, a challenging route for hikers, cyclists, backpackers, anglers, and horseback riders. It continues toward Birch Creek through post oak, yaupon, hickory, blackjack oak, and water oak woods. Nails Creek can be a short lake walk or the beginning of a day spent crossing the park.
