McAllen's Old Post Office Anchors a Downtown Heritage Corner
McAllen old post office gives downtown a clear civic landmark. The Texas Historical Commission marker says it was built in 1935 and dedicated on January 22, 1936.
The marker says the building served as the city post office until 1957. Later it held federal and city offices. Its Spanish Colonial Revival style shows in the front door surround, red tile roof, and shaped cornice.
The marker now stands at the McAllen Heritage Center on the same corner. For a downtown walk, it ties modern McAllen back to its early civic days.
