Getting a Marriage License in Hondo: Be There Before 4
The county clerk's window sits in the Medina County Annex at 1300 Avenue M, Room 163, in Hondo. That's where a Texas marriage license starts, and the one detail that catches couples off guard is the clock: issuance of licenses (and birth and death records) shuts down at 4 p.m., even though the office itself stays open until 4:30. Show up at 4:15 to get married and you'll be coming back tomorrow.
You can fill out the application ahead of time through the clerk's online eForm, which saves a little counter time, but both of you still have to appear in person to finish it. Texas doesn't let you wrap up a license entirely by mail or web. Bring valid photo ID. The clerk does not issue licenses to minors.
Once the license is filed back with the clerk after the ceremony, that same Hondo office is where you'll later request certified copies, since Texas keeps marriage records with the county clerk that filed them, not in one central state vault. So if you need proof of marriage years down the road for a name change or a benefits claim, Room 163 is the address to remember.
