Getting a Marriage License in Kerr County
The County Clerk's office sits in Suite 122 of the courthouse at 700 Main Street in Kerrville, and that's where a Texas marriage starts. Both people have to come in person with a driver's license and Social Security number. There's no mail-order version, though you can fill out the application ahead of time through the clerk's online portal at txkerr.fidlar.com to save time at the counter. The license runs $81, cash or card.
Then comes the part that catches couples planning a quick weekend wedding: a 72-hour waiting period between when the license is issued and when the ceremony can happen. You can skip that wait if you're active-duty military or you finish a state-approved premarital education course, but otherwise it's three full days. Once issued, the license is good for 90 days, so marry within that window or it expires and you start over.
One thing the clerk won't do is line up an officiant for you; that's yours to arrange. If you need a certified copy of the license later, for a name change or a benefits claim, it comes from this same office, since the certified copy lives with the county where the license was filed.
