Getting Married in Coryell County: the 72-Hour Clock and the $50 Discount
Both of you walk into the County Clerk's office together, photo ID in hand, and you walk out with a license that costs $75 — or just $25 if you've finished the free Twogether in Texas premarital course and bring the certificate. You both need to be at least 18, know your Social Security numbers, and not be currently married or divorced in the last 30 days without a waiver.
Then the clock starts. Texas makes you wait 72 hours between getting the license and holding the ceremony, so a same-day courthouse wedding isn't a thing here. Active-duty military and couples who took the Twogether course skip the wait, and a judge can waive it too. Once it's issued, the license is good for 90 days, so there's no rush to marry the moment the three days are up.
Coryell County runs two counters for this. The main clerk's office is on the first floor of the courthouse at 620 E. Main Street in Gatesville; if you're on the west side, the Copperas Cove annex at 210 S. 1st Street handles it too. Both keep regular weekday hours, and you can reach the clerk at 254-865-5911.
