Lucy Park Bends With the Wichita River
Lucy Park occupies 178 acres inside a bend of the Wichita River near the center of Wichita Falls. Huge pecans, cottonwoods, and other trees fill the park, while a large pond gives ducks and geese a year-round place to gather. The river and canopy make the setting before any list of park features begins.
A 1.7-mile concrete trail circles the park and serves as the west starting point for the citywide Circle Trail. The same route reaches a swinging bridge across the Big Wichita River and a walk toward the Falls. River Bend Nature Center uses another 15 acres along 3rd Street.
Lucy Park also has picnic shelters, playgrounds, basketball goals, volleyball courts, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Those active spaces do not erase the river setting. A cyclist beginning a long ride, a family at a shelter, and someone watching geese at the pond all start from the same broad bend in the water.
