Levi Jordan Tells Hard History on the San Bernard

At 10510 FM 524 near the town of Brazoria, the Levi Jordan Plantation State Historic Site sits on land where Levi Jordan brought his family and enslaved workers in the late 1840s to build a sugar and cotton plantation along the San Bernard River.

The Texas Historical Commission has worked to tell more than one view of life on this ground in the 1800s: the owner's story, yes, and also the world the enslaved community made for itself. Archaeology at the quarters has turned up everyday objects that put real lives back into the record.

This is an official Texas historic site where Brazoria County residents and visitors can learn about slavery, plantation work, and early Black life close to home. Check the THC page for hours, tickets, exhibits, and site rules before you go.
