Every fish species in Lake Pruitt shares one meal limit

Fish from Pruitt Lake-Black Cypress Bayou in Cass County carry a mercury consumption advisory. It covers every species in the lake. Adults should eat no more than two 8-ounce meals per month. Children under 12 should eat no more than two 4-ounce meals per month.

Count those meals across all species, not two meals of each kind. The rule follows the waterbody because mercury exposure adds up even when the catch changes from one species to another. The monthly total is the same whether the fish comes from one outing or several.

This is an eating advisory, not a possession ban. You may still harvest fish while following TPWD size, bag, and license rules. The advisory addresses fish consumption; it does not make a finding about swimming, paddling, or other contact with the water. Texas issued this advisory in 1999, and it remains on the active state table. Fishing can still be part of a day at the lake. The important extra habit is keeping a monthly meal count before the catch reaches the table.
