Lake Limestone Stories & local character

Lake Limestone puts open water on Leon County's map

The name points toward the county next door, but Lake Limestone reaches into Leon County too. The 12,553-acre reservoir sits on the Navasota River and spans Leon, Robertson, and Limestone counties. It was impounded in 1978.

Flooded timber, aquatic plants, docks, boathouses, and five freshwater fish reefs give anglers plenty to work around. The lake's main fish include largemouth and white bass, crappie, and three kinds of catfish: channel, blue, and flathead.

Leon County Park is the local public access point from FM 39. It is Brazos River Authority property maintained by Leon County, with a two-lane ramp and an oiled-sand parking lot. As of August 2026, no access fee is listed.
