Lake Bob Sandlin Put a 1977 Shoreline on Big Cypress Creek

Lake Bob Sandlin is a young piece of Camp County geography. Work on Fort Sherman Dam began in 1974. Deliberate impoundment started on August 8, 1977, and the project was finished in April 1978. The reservoir was built for domestic and industrial water storage as well as recreation.

TPWD places the lake on Big Cypress Creek in Camp, Titus, and Franklin counties. In Camp County, the engineered shoreline follows an older creek corridor.

The state park adds another meeting line. TPWD says two ecoregions meet at the shore. Massive trees and tall grasses grow in the same park, alongside wooded trails, fishing water, and Brim Pond.

A dam changed the county's water map in the 1970s. The name Big Cypress still tells you what the lake filled.
