What You Can Hunt in Hall County

Mule deer and white-tailed deer both range the broken country and creek bottoms here on the southeastern edge of the Panhandle, and they're hunted under different rules. Mule deer get an archery season and a general season; white-tailed deer follow the North Zone calendar. That split trips up newcomers, so it's worth knowing which animal you're after before you set a date.

Bird hunting is the real draw. Pheasant runs December into early January, with a three-rooster daily limit. Quail is open November through February. Dove opens September 1 under North Zone dates. Down in the wet spots and stock tanks you'll find duck, goose, teal, and sandhill crane seasons too.

Bag limits, exact dates, and zone lines shift year to year, and a Texas hunting license is required no matter what you're chasing.
