Copperas Cove's City Course Follows the Hills

On Golf Course Road, the name is doing real work. Hills of Cove is owned and operated by the City of Copperas Cove. The course follows the rolling northeast side of town instead of hiding from it. The nine-hole course opened in 1972; the city expanded it to 18 holes in 1999. Today it plays as a par 71 with five par threes, nine par fours, and four par fives.

That makes the course a small piece of Copperas Cove identity, especially on a county page that can lean hard toward permits and edge-of-post logistics. It is local recreation with a city address, a lighted driving range, a pro shop, lessons, and a grill at 1408 Golf Course Road. The useful detail is not the scorecard. The hillier part of Cove shows up in a public weekend place, and the range and grill give people reasons to stop even when they are not playing a full round. The land itself gets to stay visible from the tee boxes and range.
