Plano's 1908 Interurban Station Still Sits in Haggard Park

Plano's old interurban station is not tucked behind a fence or hidden in an archive. It sits in Haggard Park beside a gazebo, playground, and restrooms. The station now holds the Interurban Railway Museum.

Texas Traction Company built it in 1908. A wooden passenger depot joined a brick section used for freight and electrical-transformer work. Travelers waited in one part. Freight and the equipment for the electric line occupied the other.

After a 1917 merger, the railway became Texas Electric. Passengers and freight kept moving through the Plano station until 1948. The building had served as both a stop on the line and a working part of the system that powered it.

That split still gives the museum its character. The wood room tells the travel story, while the brick room points to the work behind electric rail. The brick half can look like an ordinary addition, but it held part of the railway's power system. Haggard Park lets an ordinary playground stop hold both pieces of Plano's rail past.
