Odessa Has a Replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

On the campus of Odessa College, there is a building called the Globe of the Great Southwest. It is a replica, a copy of Shakespeare's famous Globe Theatre in London. The Globe hosts plays and Shakespeare productions on a seasonal schedule.

Odessa College was founded in 1946. The Globe replica is one of the best-known cultural landmarks in the Permian Basin. It draws visitors from across West Texas. It is an unusual thing to find in a West Texas oil town, and that is part of what makes it special. The Handbook of Texas documents both the college and the Globe.
