Edinburg's 1910 Jail Marks the County-Seat Move
The old jail at 121 East McIntyre records Edinburg early county-seat years. The Texas Historical Commission marker says it was built in 1909-1910, just after the seat moved from Old Hidalgo.
The building had red tile, white walls, and Spanish-style details. It also had a hard edge. The marker notes a hanging trap in the tower that was used once, in 1913.
After a newer jail opened in 1922, the building became a community center, meeting place, and city hall. Today it works as a museum and still anchors a piece of downtown Edinburg history.
