Downtown Conroe Doubles as an Arts District
Downtown Conroe does double duty. The arts district brings galleries, theaters, music rooms, restaurants, and old landmarks into the heart of town.
The broad label has real names behind it: Conroe Art League, Crighton Theatre, Owen Theatre, Conroe Symphony Orchestra, Heritage Museum, local choirs and writers, and several places that pair food with live music. This is a cluster of rooms and stages, not one arts building.
Founders Plaza gives the cluster an outdoor room. The 0.6-acre park at 205 Metcalf opened in 2009 with a covered stage, picnic tables, landscaping, and a water feature. The same downtown can hold a gallery stop, a play, a concert, or a show under the plaza roof.
