Disabled Parking Placards Come From the County Tax Office

Disabled parking placards are handled at the same county tax office that does your registration sticker, Marcela Thormaehlen's Tax Assessor-Collector. The color tells the story: a blue placard is permanent, a red one is temporary, for a condition expected to clear up.

Getting one starts with TxDMV's application and a medical certification from your doctor confirming the disability. Bring the completed form and that documentation with you; the office can't issue the tag off a verbal request.

And you don't have to drive into Sinton for it. Besides the main office at 1301 E. Sinton St., Suite C, the county keeps branches at 225 W. Wheeler in Aransas Pass, 600 N. Frio Street in Mathis, and 900 Austin St. in Portland, so most residents have a counter within a short drive.
