Deer Hunting Rules for Hamilton County

Hamilton County falls in the North Zone, and the season bag is five deer total, but no more than two of those can be bucks, and the antler rules are where hunters get tangled up. A legal buck has to have at least one unbranched antler, or an inside spread of 13 inches or more. Of the two bucks you're allowed, only one may carry that 13-inch-or-wider spread; the other has to be a spike or a narrower-racked deer.

It's a setup that pushes hunters to pass on young, wide-spread bucks and let them mature. Run the math before you climb into the blind: a couple of spikes and three does is a full North Zone season here.

If you're hunting with a bow during the early archery weeks, you'll need an archery endorsement on top of your license. A regular hunting license alone won't cover it.
