C.J. Kelly Park Has a Football Field and a Fishing Pond on the West Side

C.J. Kelly Park covers 66 acres at 5500 League Drive on Midland's west side, and it stands out for two things you don't find at every park in town. One is a football field, a real gridiron alongside the baseball and softball diamonds, with concession buildings to feed the crowd. The other is the fishing.

In a county that averages barely thirteen inches of rain a year, a small public pond you can actually fish is a local landmark, not an afterthought. Bring a cane pole and a kid and you've got a morning. Around the water there's a walking track, grills, picnic tables, and a playground for when the fish stop biting.

It's open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. When folks weigh weekend options, the trick in Midland is to compare parks by what they hold, not just by which is closest, and Kelly is the one with a hook in the water.
