Two separate offices handle property taxes here

The Matagorda County Appraisal District sets the value of your property. It is at 2225 Avenue G in Bay City, and you can reach it at 979-244-2031. This is where you file for a homestead exemption or protest your appraised value. The appraisal district does not collect money.

The Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office at 1801 7th Street in Bay City. That office sends the tax bills and takes payments, and it also handles vehicle registration. If you get a bill that looks wrong, the value behind it is set at the appraisal district, so start there and not with the collector.
